Dr.
Dorothy Marcic is adjunct professor at Vanderbilt Universitys
Owen Graduate School of Management and recently was Director of
the Doctoral and Masters Programs in Human Resource Development
at Vanderbilt.
She is a
former Fulbright Scholar at the University of Economics-Prague and
the Czech Management Center, where she taught MBA students and practicing
managers. Dr. Marcic has conducted over 1000 highly-rated seminars
on many topics and has done consulting for managers at AT&T
Bell Labs; the Governor and Cabinet of North Dakota; the US. Department
of State; United Parcel Service; USAA Insurance; Aerial Beauty Supply
Company; the US Air Force; Slovak Management Assoc; Eurotel; Hawaii
Governors Commission on the status of women; University of
Western Australia; Czech Ministry of Finance, and numerous other
organizationsassisting them to become more productive and
innovative.
She spearheaded
organizational analysis and intervention projects with the Cattaraugus
Center, two arts organizations in the Twin Cities, and the Salt
River-Pima Indian Tribe in Arizona. In addition, she worked to develop
a three-week management training program on empowerment for Hallmark
Corp and has served as advisor to the US Ambassador of the Czech
Republic.
She served
as delegate to the UN Economic and Social Develop Summit in Copenhagen
and gave three workshops on ethical management at the NGO Forum.
The author
of Managing With the Wisdom of Love: Uncovering Virtue in
People and Organizations (Jossey-Bass) and RESPECT:
Women and Popular Music (Texere Pub.), Dr. Marcic has other
books: Organizational Behavior and Management International
with West Publishing and Women and Men in Organizations,
George Washington University Press, and a book on high performance
in the service industry, with total book sales over 500,000.
While living
in La Crosse, she hosted a weekly radio program entitled "Mind
Your Business", and was selected as "Woman of the
Year"
by the La Crosse, Wisconsin YWCA.
Dr. Marcic
began her extensive and varied academic career at Arizona State
University. During her years as MBA Director at St. Bonaventure
University, she organized several major business conferences. At
the University of Wisconsins-La Crosse, Dorothy coordinated the
Russell Cleary Seminar Series on Entrepreneurship.
Her expertise
also includes working with cross-cultural people and organizations.
She served as faculty member for two years at the Autonomous University
of Guadalajara, Mexico, and later supervised a summer school in
Guatemala. Because of her expertise in Latin America, she was selected
as a consultant to a UN project in Guatemala. In addition, she has
been organizational consultant and management trainer to US State
Dept. in the Czech Republic, Guatemala and Washington, DC. She has
working knowledge of German, Czech and Spanish languages.
Dr. Marcic
has done extensive work in media (two weekly TV programs, production
assistant on Mister Rogers Neighborhood) which led to her
scripting a videotape on personality types produced at AT&T
Bell Labs. During her five years of consulting with Bell Labs, Dorothy
developed the training program, Management of Diversity.
She
has been an active member of the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary International,
and the Board of Directors of the European Baháí
Business Forum where her understanding of organizations and people
is not only enhanced but put into community service.
